Sydney's Bengali-speaking community spans West Bengali families spread through the north-west and Hills district, and a large Bangladeshi community concentrated around Lakemba, Wiley Park, Campsie and Rockdale. Durga Puja in autumn and Pohela Boishakh in April are the two events that fill the calendar, and the community is unusually well represented in academia, medicine and IT.
