Matrimony
What we check, what we can't, and what to do when something isn't right.
If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number — 000 in Australia
In Australia: for family, domestic or sexual violence, 1800RESPECT is free and available 24 hours on 1800 737 732. If you are being pressured into a marriage you do not want, Anti-Slavery Australia's My Blue Sky service can help confidentially. To report a scam, go to scamwatch.gov.au; to report online crime, cyber.gov.au/report. Elsewhere, start with your local police and your country's national cybercrime reporting service.
Email, phone, photo and government ID. Each is its own badge so you can see what has actually been confirmed about the person you're talking to.
Photos can be public, members-only, Premium-only or connection-only. Discovery shows a first name and last initial. Phone numbers are only ever released when both people agree.
Every report is read by our team, not a queue that empties itself. We can warn, remove content, suspend or permanently remove an account, and we keep the records.
Romance and matrimonial fraud is the single biggest risk on any service like this. Our safety page spells out exactly what the pattern looks like so you can recognise it early.
Verification on Wedyesday is four separate checks, and your profile shows which ones you've passed rather than collapsing them into a single tick. Nobody has to complete all four, but each one you add makes it easier for another family to take your profile seriously.
What each check proves is narrow, and we'd rather be precise about it than let a badge imply more than it should.
A verified badge means those specific checks passed. It is not a character reference, a background check, or a criminal history check, and we will never present it as one.
Every new profile is reviewed by a person before it appears in search. We're looking for a small number of specific things, and most profiles pass first time.
Illustrative profiles we wrote ourselves to demonstrate the product are labelled Sample profile everywhere they appear, carry no photographs, and cannot be contacted or accept an interest.
Discovery shows a first name and a last initial. Your full name, your exact address, your employer and your contact details are never rendered to another member by the platform — they only ever move because you decide to share them.
Photo visibility is yours to set, per profile: visible to everyone, to signed-in members only, to Premium members only, or only to people you've connected with. You can hide your profile entirely at any time without deleting it, and you can delete it outright.
Premium Plus members can request contact details. That request does nothing on its own: the number is only released when both people have agreed.
Every profile and every conversation has a Report and a Block option. Blocking is instant and silent — the other member isn't told, and they stop being able to see you or contact you.
A report goes to our team and is read by a person. We aim to respond within two business days, and we act on anything that suggests immediate risk straight away. You'll get an acknowledgement, and we'll tell you the outcome where we're able to.
Depending on what we find, we can issue a warning, remove content, restrict an account's ability to contact anyone, suspend the account, or remove it permanently. We keep records of removed accounts so the same person can't quietly come back, and we cooperate with police where there's a criminal matter.
You can also email support@wedyesday.com, or use the report form on the site if you'd rather not do it from inside the conversation. Reports can be made anonymously.
Nothing here is unusual advice, but it's worth reading before the first meeting rather than after it. The overwhelming majority of members are exactly who they say they are; these habits cost you nothing and matter enormously on the rare occasion someone isn't.
Romance and matrimonial fraud is the most serious risk on any matchmaking service, and people everywhere lose a great deal of money to it every year. The people who run it are organised, patient and rehearsed. They are good at this, which is why intelligent, careful people fall for it — being taken in is not a character flaw.
The pattern is remarkably consistent. If several of these are true at once, stop and talk to someone you trust before you do anything else.
No Wedyesday member, employee or contractor will ever ask you for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank details or your password. If someone claims to be from Wedyesday and asks for any of those things, they are not from Wedyesday. Report it.
If you're in immediate danger, call your local emergency number — 000 in Australia.
You do not need to be certain before you report something, and you have not wasted anyone's time by asking. In Australia, these services are free and they deal with this every day. Elsewhere, start with your local police and your country's national cybercrime reporting service.
These are the standards we hold ourselves to, and you can hold us to them too.
Exactly the check it names, and nothing more. A phone badge means a code was sent to a live mobile in that person's hands. A photo badge means our team compared a live selfie against the profile photos. An ID badge means a government document was checked against the profile name and date of birth. None of them is a character reference.
No, and we won't claim otherwise. We verify identity and photos; we cannot access criminal records, and no matrimony platform in Australia can do that on your behalf. That is precisely why the meeting-safely advice on this page matters, whatever badges a profile carries.
It's reviewed by a person, the result is recorded against your profile as a badge, and the document is removed from active storage once the check is complete. We don't keep a library of members' passports, and we never show your document to another member.
Don't send it, stop the conversation, and report the profile. Then read our guide on matrimonial scams — an early, modest request is the standard opening, not an exception to it. If you've already sent money, call your bank straight away and report it — at scamwatch.gov.au in Australia, or your country's scam reporting service.
Yes. Photo visibility is a setting on your own profile: everyone, signed-in members only, Premium members only, or only people you've connected with. Discovery only ever shows your first name and last initial regardless of that setting.
No. Blocking is silent and immediate — they stop being able to see your profile or contact you, and they aren't notified. Reporting is separate, and can be done anonymously.
Every report is read by a person. We aim to respond within two business days and we act immediately on anything suggesting a risk to someone's safety. Where we can tell you the outcome, we will.
Use the report option on the profile or the conversation, email support@wedyesday.com, or send it through the form below. Reports can be anonymous, you don't need proof, and every one is read by a person.
