Local context
Brisbane's South Asian community sits mainly south of the river — Sunnybank, Runcorn, Calamvale, Stretton and Eight Mile Plains — with rapid growth west through Springfield Lakes, Forest Lake, Redbank Plains and Ipswich, and a newer cluster north around North Lakes and Mango Hill.
It is a smaller community than Melbourne's or Sydney's, and that changes the dynamic: the networks are tighter, word travels faster, and a good number of Brisbane members are also open to matches in Sydney or interstate.
Brisbane's Tamil community is modest in size and closely connected, concentrated south of the river through Sunnybank, Runcorn, Calamvale and Eight Mile Plains, with newer families settling around Springfield Lakes and Redbank Plains. Both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankan Tamil families are represented, and because the community is smaller, a good number of members are also open to matches in Sydney or Melbourne.

Australia's Tamil community has two distinct histories running alongside each other: families who came from Tamil Nadu, largely through skilled migration since the 1990s, and Sri Lankan Tamil families, many of whom arrived earlier and under very different circumstances. Both are strongly represented in Australian matrimony, and plenty of matches cross between them.
Language holds on well here. Tamil weekend schools operate in every major city, Thai Pongal and Tamil New Year fill community halls each year, and a lot of second-generation members speak Tamil at home even when they write in English.
