Local context
Adelaide's South Asian community is anchored around Mawson Lakes and the northern suburbs — Salisbury, Munno Para, Andrews Farm and Golden Grove — with a substantial student and early-career population attached to the universities and the health services.
It is the most affordable of the mainland capitals to marry in and to buy in, which is exactly why a steady number of members in Melbourne and Sydney will consider an Adelaide match that they would not have considered a few years ago.
Adelaide's Tamil community is compact and well connected, concentrated around Mawson Lakes, Salisbury, Golden Grove and the inner northern suburbs, with a strong student and early-career presence attached to the universities. Both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankan Tamil families are represented, and a good share of members arrived as students and stayed.

Australia's Tamil community has two distinct histories running alongside each other: families who came from Tamil Nadu, largely through skilled migration since the 1990s, and Sri Lankan Tamil families, many of whom arrived earlier and under very different circumstances. Both are strongly represented in Australian matrimony, and plenty of matches cross between them.
Language holds on well here. Tamil weekend schools operate in every major city, Thai Pongal and Tamil New Year fill community halls each year, and a lot of second-generation members speak Tamil at home even when they write in English.
