Adelaide's South Asian community is anchored around Mawson Lakes and the northern suburbs — Salisbury, Munno Para, Andrews Farm and Golden Grove — with a substantial student and early-career population attached to the universities and the health services.
It is the most affordable of the mainland capitals to marry in and to buy in, which is exactly why a steady number of members in Melbourne and Sydney will consider an Adelaide match that they would not have considered a few years ago.
Hindi-speaking families in Adelaide are spread across Mawson Lakes, Salisbury, Golden Grove, Munno Para and the inner north-west, a mix of long-settled households and recent skilled migrants. The community organises city-wide rather than by home state, and the Diwali celebrations each year are the point at which most of it turns up in one place.
