Local context
Perth's South Asian population is concentrated in the south-east and south — Canning Vale, Southern River, Harrisdale, Piara Waters, Thornlie and Baldivis — with a northern cluster around Ellenbrook and Bennett Springs. Punjabi and Malayali families are particularly well represented, alongside a strong professional presence in mining, engineering and healthcare.
Distance is the defining feature. Perth is a four to five hour flight from the eastern capitals, so interstate matches are a genuine decision about relocation rather than a weekend commute, and families tend to address that upfront.
Hindi-speaking families in Perth are spread through Canning Vale, Southern River, Harrisdale, Baldivis and Ellenbrook, with a mix of long-settled families and recent skilled migrants. The community is smaller and less segmented by region of origin than in Melbourne or Sydney, which in practice means a wider social circle and a shorter path from an introduction to a family meeting.
